Dear Brother Priests, Deacons and Subdeacons, and Consecrated Men and Women,
It is my sad duty to announce the passing of Deacon Elias Shami on Tuesday July 28, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida.
Deacon Shari was born November 2, 1929, in Jaffa, Palestine. He is survived by his wife Diane, and his four children, Donna, Khalil, Michelle, and Paul. In August 1996, Deacon Shami was ordained a Subdeacon by Chorbishop John Faris, at Christ the King Church in Jacksonville, Florida. In February 2002, Bishop Doueihi ordained him a Deacon at Saint Maron Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Deacon Shami has served with much love and generosity at Saint Maron Church, and will be greatly missed.
A viewing will be held at St. Maron Church on Friday July 31, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM. The Divine Liturgy for the repose of his soul will be held at St. Maron Church on Saturday, August I, at IE:00 AM followed by burial at Arlington Park cemetery (located at 6920 Lone Star Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32211), followed by a Mercy Meal at St. Maron's Church Hall.
