Sixteenth Annual Benefit Dinner for Eparchy of Saint Maron

Two hundred people celebrated at the Sixteenth Annual Benefit Dinner for the Eparchy of Saint Maron on Wednesday, October 22 at The Metropolitan Club in New York. In the midst of all the suffering in the Middle East, the Eparchy was able to find some joy and hope as friends and supporters gathered to continue its life-giving work.

Highlights of the evening included:

  • The honoring of Rita Makhlouf Kanaan, a member of the Maronite Mission of Manhattan; Roger Shammas, a member of Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral in Brooklyn; and Roukos and Tacla Jacobs, members of St. Sharbel Maronite Parish in Somerset, NJ. Tributes were received from family members and Bishop Gregory Mansour, who presented each honoree with a special gift.

  • Parishioners attended from all four New York area Maronite communities – Saint John Paul II Parish in Sleepy Hollow, Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral in Brooklyn, the Maronite Mission in Manhattan and Saint Sharbel Parish in Somerset, NJ, as well as from parishes in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia and Florida.

  • A Silent Auction consisted of appealing items from reputable businesses including Middle East Airlines, Hannoush Jewelers and Ilili Restaurant, as well as a beautiful icon and other items.

Proceeds from the Benefit Dinner help educate Seminarians, support small parishes and missions, and fund the ministries of the Eparchy. A portion of the proceeds is also given to help in Lebanon, especially in these difficult times.

Donations are being accepted until November 22 and may be made online here, or by mailing a check to: Eparchy of Saint Maron of Brooklyn, 109 Remsen Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201.
