It is with deep sorrow that I share the news of the passing of our beloved friend and community member, Ed Shiner.
Ed was a devoted member of our Maronite community and a key leader on the committee for our annual Benefit Dinner. His energy, humor, and generous spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Ed’s talents were many. A gifted musician, he earned a B.S. in Music Education with a concentration in piano performance and an M.M. in Music History and Literature. He taught private piano lessons and was a professional ballet pianist for over ten years. He also spent more than three decades as an active member of New York’s West Village Chorale, where he sang tenor and served on the board of directors.
In addition to his musical and artistic gifts, Ed managed his family’s candy business and served faithfully for 23 years as Executive Director of the National Apostolate of Maronites.
I had the blessing of spending time with Ed last Thursday evening before his passing. I expressed our deep gratitude for his life and service. His life is a powerful example of what we call the vocation of the generous single life. Before leaving, I offered him a prayer of absolution.
May God welcome His good and faithful servant into eternal peace.
