Great Friday of the Crucifixion

Great Friday of the Crucifixion

April 15, 2022

O Judge of the living and the dead, who rewards and punishes, this morning we raise our prayers and thoughts to you. We share in your sufferings when you appeared before the judges, when you played the role of the accused, and were dragged from court to court. You lived among us and could not be conquered by sin. May we erase hatred, purify our thoughts, and follow your teachings. Thus, we shall receive pardon in this world and on the day of judgment receive your mercy, and glorify you, your Father, and your Holy Spirit, for ever.

Amen.

Thursday of the Mysteries

Thursday of the Mysteries

April 14, 2022

In the Mystery of the altar, my Lord is with me always,
in the sublime Mystery, Jesus becomes food,
in the sacrifice, the Son of God is man and God
He gave them the sacrifice by saying a word which leaves no doubt:

”This is my body, take from my hands and eat.”

After the meal and thanksgiving, he said the same words about the wine:

”Drink, my people, for this is my blood”

Hymn from the morning prayer for Thursday of the Mysteries, *Prayer of the Faithful*

Coming to the Harbor — The Rite of the Lamp

Coming to the Harbor — The Rite of the Lamp

April 13, 2022

Look, O Lord, upon us, your worshipers standing before you, with souls in agony and bodies in affliction. Nothing can help and nothing can save, except your mercy, and no one can heal and no one can give life, except your love.

Since we bore your seal from the waters of baptism, believed in your name, and consumed your body and drank your blood, let your living cross be a rudder for our ship, and guide us through the storms which surround us.

Shine your salvific mercy upon us; and, by your grace, let there be a rest to our affliction. Let your mercy bring comfort to us as we bow before you, forgive our sins and blot out our offences from your book.

From Prayer of Forgiveness (Sedro) for the Rite of the Lamp.

April 12, 2022

O Lord, Sea of mercy and compassion, in the abundance of your grace, you give rest to the weary, relief to those who struggle, and support and protection to those who seek refuge in you. O Harbor of safety and salvation, save all those who, in true faith, reached the harbor of your holy Church.

We offer glory and thanksgiving to you, now and for ever.

Amen.

Make us worthy, O Lord God, to light the lamp of our souls with the oil of charity like the Wise Virgins, to await you, O heavenly Bridegroom, anxiously and vigilantly, and to enter, in your company, your kingdom, filled of joy.

We will offer glory and thanksgiving to you, to your Father, and to your Holy Spirit, for ever.

Hosanna Sunday

Hosanna Sunday

April 10, 2022

“Your King shall come to you, humble and riding on a donkey!”

Behold, the King of Sion rides a donkey and enters the city amid the songs of praise of little children and suckling babes. Everyone cries out:

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel.”

Waving olive branches, they praise the King of Israel. Today, the Church gathers her children from all peoples and nations; in the churches and convents they chant hymns of praise. In procession small and great alike go forth, singing in every language.

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord,”

Christ the King.

From the Prayer of the Faithful Morning Prayer for Hosanna Sunday.

Lazarus Saturday

Lazarus Saturday

April 9, 2022

Martha and Mary sent forth a message to Christ the Savior, who gives the world life. “He whom you love, Lord, is sick and dying. Yet we have great faith, you can do all things.”

Martha and Mary spoke with such sadness. “Lord, you have come late, too late to save him. If you had been here while he was living, you would have healed him, kept him from dying.”

“Lazarus, rise up!” Jesus cried loudly. Lazarus rose up, hearing his friend’s voice. He stood and came forth, his hands and feet bound. All those who saw this had faith in Jesus.

Wa Habibi

O My Son, o My Beloved. See the plight love brings You to. Who has seen you and not mourned you? You! You are the Redeemer! O my Love, what kind of guilt has the slave made his king bear? They disfigured you and maimed you with no hope for any cure

Look on me daughter of Sion. Crushed beneath this mighty wave. Anguish fills my very marrow and it leads me to the grave. There is none to be a friend now. And this angry mob to brave. For the suff'ring I endure.

When in the garden at night, the redeemer did bow down. While the earth echoed His plight. the source of all reverent sound. The trees of olives are crying. And lips are calling for Him. My Love, why are You departing? Has faithfulness grown dim?

April 5, 2022

O Lord, we stand before you with all the prophets and Apostles, and we adore you. In your mercy, perfect us in our faith. Let your living and Holy Spirit come and consecrate this oil. Fill it with your might and let your divinity abide in it.

May those who believe and are signed and anointed with this oil, become holy and pure. Once they are perfected in baptism, call them to stand at your right hand, shining in the glory of your kingdom, and they will raise glory to the most exalted Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for ever.

Amen.

Sixth Week of Great Lent, Sunday of Bartimaeus the Blind

April 3, 2022

Prayer of Forgiveness

Only-begotten Word of God, born in time of the Virgin Mary, you are the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. You chose to open the eyes of the blind to teach us that you are the source and the giver of light. By your miracles, you proved that you are the awaited Messiah of whom Isiah spoke:

“Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy.”

O Lord, who has given us light, accept our witness, and our profession of faith that you are truly the Son of God and the Savior of the world.

Prayer in Honor of the Five Wounds of Christ

Act of Contrition and Love

O Our Lord Jesus Christ, we are sorry from the depth of our hearts, because we have sinned against You with our bad actions, deserved Your punishment by temporal sufferings and everlasting fire of Hell and lost the joys of Your Heavenly Kingdom.

We are especially sorry for we have sinned because we have sinned against Your Fatherly Love, O You who are the Good God and deserve the love of all your lowly creatures. We firmly resolve not to return to sin and rather, to accept death one thousand times than to commit one mortal sin. We beseech You, through your love for Your Holy Mother, the Virgin Mary, and for Saint Joseph, Your chosen Just One, and through the wound of Your PURE HEART, to grant us Your Grace, so we may live and die with it.

Amen.

Gabriel the Archangel

Gabriel the Archangel

March 26, 2022

It is the custom of the Eastern Churches to continue the celebration of the memorial of a saint on the day following his feast. This is why we celebrate today the memorial of the Archangel Gabriel who bore the announcement of the incarnation to the Virgin Mary, our Mother. The name Gabriel is a Hebrew word which signifies "the strength of God". May God, through the intercession of his angel, strengthen us so that we may serve him. Amen.

Feast of the Annunciation of the Virgin

Feast of the Annunciation of the Virgin

March 25, 2022

The Maronite calendar commemorates this feast twice during the year: today and on the Second Sunday of Announcement. Today's feast goes back to the fourth century, when it was decided to celebrate Christmas on December 25th; the Annunciation was naturally celebrated nine months before. This is a great feast in both the East and the West since it recalls the mystery of the incarnation of the Son of God in the womb of the Virgin. May the prayers of the Blessed Virgin protect us. Amen.

Fourth Week of Great Lent, Sunday of the Parable of the Prodigal Son

Fourth Week of Great Lent, Sunday of the Parable of the Prodigal Son

March 20, 2022

Qolo

The younger son dares to ask for his inheritance and leaves for a distant country, far away from his father. The world and its illusions seduce him and he wanders away from the right path.

The Father of heaven receives the repentant sinner with kindness he opens his arms to him and embraces him.

Happy the one who repents of his sins; blessed be the name of the merciful One who forgives sins.

Psalm of the readings

The true love of the father
far surpassed his son's great sin.
He ran out to embrace him
when at last his son came home.

"I have sinned against heaven
and before you" said the son.
"Though my heart now condemns me,
you are greater than my heart."

Lord our God, you accepted
what the just had offered you;
now accept, in your mercy,
our pure sacrifice and prayers.

Third Week of Great Lent, Sunday of the Healing of the Hemorrhaging Woman

March 14, 2022

OPENING PRAYER

Jesus Christ our Lord, you are almighty and have power over the universe. To the crowd pressing uponyou, you said: "Power has gone out from me." Then to the hemorrhaging woman who was healed by touching the fringe of your clothes, you said: "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace." Now we ask you to heal us from every sin, that we may stand with purity before you all the days of our lives. We raise glory and thanks to you, to your Father, and to your Holy Spirit, for ever.

Second Week of Lent, Sunday of the Leper

March 6 — March 12

Christ our God, we ask you this [week] to extend your hand to us and bless your people and your inheritance. Like the leper, we call upon you. Lord if you desire, you can purify us of our sins and faults. If you wish, O Lord, you can make us living temples where you dwell, and we shall be your witnesses and spread your word. Cure us of passions of the soul and earthly inclinations, purify us of hidden vices which hold us; and grant that our intentions may be pure for your glory and praise.
