Patriarch Sfeir Celebrates Fifty Years of Priesthood

Dear People of Mar Maroon, Clergy and Lay Faithful,

on June 18, 2000, at the Patriarchal Residence, in Bkerke, the Maronite Church is commemorating the 50th Anniversary to priesthood of our Father and spiritual Head, Patriarch Nasrallah Peter Cardinal Sfeir. On that day, His Beatitude will offer a Liturgy of Thanksgiving for the occasion. The Synod of Maronite Bishops, gathered from all over the world, will surround him at the altar, as well as the Maronite priests who received the imposition of hand the same year as he, that is the year 1950. The Maronite people crowding the expanded plaza of the Patriarchal Residence in Bkerke, will join in the celebration.

As the Eparchy of Saint Maron of Brooklyn, we want to be part of this unique event.
I want you all to be in Bkerke that Sunday.
I want you to join in the celebration taking place there.

As your Eparch, I will participate in the celebration of Bkerke and so, you will be present with me before the Patriarch and you will be, indeed, in Bkerke with him. As members of the Eparchy, clergy and lay faithful, I ask you to celebrate at the altars of our Eparchy, in all our parishes, that same Liturgy of Thanksgiving, that same day of June 18 - and so the Patriarch will be, indeed, with us and, on that day, Bkerke will be in the United States, among us.

We are a patriarchal Church. We are a family. Throughout history, the Patriarch stood before us, as a father, a leader, a judge, a shepherd, a spokesperson, briefly, as a true image of the Lord Jesus whom he embodies for us.

During all his life as a priest, a bishop, a patriarch and a cardinal, Patriarch Sfeir has lived, in words as well as in deeds, the true spirit of St. Maron and his Maronite legacy, - as a true Father and spiritual Head.

I ask you to ardently pray for him, that the Lord may keep him, protect him and provide him with the strength, wisdom and vision of Father and spiritual Head, for the sake of our Church and of Lebanon, the spiritual homeland of that Church. May the Lord sharar (confirm) him in all things, at all times.

Let us all be in Bkerke on that Sunday of June 18, the year 2000
